“Net Savvy” student design competition features QuarkXPress;
Competition promotes students’ skills and use of premier desktop publishing software

(Denver - December 8, 2005 - Quark.com) Quark Inc. announced today that Studica, a division of Torcomp Inc., one of Quark’s educational resellers, is sponsoring a skills competition for high school, college undergraduate, and graduate students featuring the award-winning QuarkXPress 6.5 software.

Open to qualified students who are enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary full- or part-time education program, the competition will evaluate contestants’ abilities and skills with and knowledge of desktop publishing using QuarkXPress. Contestants will design a “Net Savvy” brochure for first-year students that provides effective Internet research tips. Studica is sponsoring this competition to help stimulate and motivate students and staff to develop their skills in using high-end desktop publishing solutions, such as QuarkXPress.

As part of the competition, teachers are encouraged to make participation in the competition an in-class activity to enhance the students’ learning experience and provide them with an opportunity to showcase their talents.

“We are pleased to be working with Quark in order to provide students with the best in desktop publishing software,” said Frank Nanfara, president of Torcomp-Studica. “By promoting this competition, we encourage students to improve their design skills as they become even more involved in their creative work, striving to produce innovative projects.”

“Active participation in the educational community enables Quark to support the next generation of designers, offering them the ability to learn and leverage QuarkXPress, the leading design tool for multi-channel publishing,” said Cherie Walker, director of channel development and marketing for Quark.

In addition to cash prizes provided by Studica for the top three winners, Quark will give a copy of QuarkXPress 6.5 to each of the top three winners when the competition ends on April 28, 2006. For more information about Quark’s education programs, visit the Quark Web site at

  1. I wonder if logo design will be part of the skills competion? Perhaps Studica would want someone other than Quark to judge that aspect of the student’s work. Students really shouldn’t start learning bold faced plagiarism until they’ve been in the professional workforce for a few years.
